The Silver Shark (Balantiocheilos melanopterus), also known as the Bala Shark, is one of the most striking and popular large schooling fish in the aquarium hobby. With its brilliant silver body, sleek streamlined shape, and distinctive black margins on its fins, it brings a magnificent dynamic presence to any large aquarium.
Despite its impressive "shark-like" appearance, the Silver Shark is a remarkably peaceful fish. It is highly active and requires spacious aquariums with a minimum length of 150 cm to allow for open swimming space. As a schooling fish, it thrives best when kept in a group of at least 3-4 individuals; otherwise, they may become timid or easily startled.
