Microsorum pteropus 'Windelov' is one of the most attractive and popular aquarium plants, named after the famous Danish aquascaping pioneer Holger Windelov. It features uniquely branched, lace-like leaf tips that resemble miniature antlers, giving it a lush, highly ornamental appearance.
This fern is extremely hardy and undemanding, making it an ideal choice for both beginner aquarists and experienced aquascapers. As an epiphyte, it should not be planted directly into the substrate!
- Origin: Netherlands (Cultivated)
- Care Level: Easy (Great for beginners)
- Growth Rate: Slow to moderate
- Lighting: Low to medium
- CO2: Not required, but benefits from CO2 injection
- Placement: Epiphyte - attach to driftwood, rocks, or hardscape
Planting and Maintenance Instructions:
- Carefully remove the plant from its nursery pot/basket.
- Gently rinse and remove the rock wool from the roots without damaging the main root system.
- Attach the plant to a piece of driftwood, rock, or other aquarium decoration using fishing line, cotton thread, or plant glue. The roots will naturally anchor themselves over time.
- Do not bury the horizontal stem (rhizome) in the substrate, as this may cause it to rot.
