Microsorum pteropus (Java Fern) is one of the most popular and hardy aquarium plants, perfect for both beginners and advanced aquascapers. It adapts easily to a wide range of water parameters and lighting conditions.
A key rule when planting this species is never to bury the rhizome (horizontal rootstock) in the substrate, as it may rot. Instead, the plant should be attached to driftwood, rocks, or other decorations using fishing line, thread, or aquarium plant glue.
Planting Instructions:
- Carefully remove the plant from its pot or basket.
- Gently clean all rock wool/cotton from the roots.
- Attach the rhizome to a decoration (do not plant it directly into the gravel).
Good to know: The black spots often found on the underside of the leaves are sporangia (the plant's reproductive organs), not a sign of disease. It propagates easily by dividing the rhizome or from tiny plantlets growing on old leaves.
Country of origin: Netherlands.
