Corydoras panda is one of the most charming and popular bottom-dwelling fish in the aquarium hobby. It gets its name from the distinctive black and white markings around its eyes and dorsal fin, strongly resembling a giant panda.
This species is exceptionally peaceful, social, and active, making it an ideal inhabitant for community aquariums with small to medium-sized peaceful fish. They typically reach a maximum size of about 4–5 cm (1.5–2 inches).
Key Requirements and Care:
- Tank Setup and Substrate: It is highly recommended to use fine, rounded sand or soft gravel to protect their sensitive barbels from injury while they sift through the substrate.
- Social Behavior: Corydoras panda are schooling fish. They must be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals to feel secure and display their natural, lively behavior.
- Water Parameters: Temperature 22–26°C (72–79°F), pH 6.0–7.4, soft to medium hardness. They thrive in well-filtered, oxygen-rich water.
- Diet: Omnivorous bottom feeders. They require specialized sinking foods such as sinking pellets and tablets, supplemented with frozen foods like bloodworms and daphnia.
