Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) is one of the most majestic, elegant, and popular South American cichlids in the aquarium hobby. Easily recognized by its high, laterally compressed delta-shaped body and long, flowing fins, it adds a touch of grace to any freshwater setup.
Adults typically reach about 12-15 cm in length, but due to their impressive vertical height, they require an aquarium with a height of at least 50 cm and a volume of 100+ liters. Angelfish are intelligent fish with fascinating social behaviors, often forming monogamous pairs.
Key Features:

Aquarium Care & Tank Mates:
Angelfish thrive in well-planted aquariums with plenty of open swimming space. They prefer gentle water movement and shaded areas, which can be achieved using floating plants. Suitable tank mates include peaceful fish of a similar size. Avoid keeping them with very small fish (like neon tetras) that might be viewed as prey, or fin-nipping species such as certain barbs.
