Trichopodus trichopterus (commonly known as the Three-Spot Gourami or Golden Gourami) is a stunning, hardy labyrinth fish that makes a fantastic addition to community aquariums. A key feature of this species is its specialized labyrinth organ, which allows them to breathe atmospheric air directly from the water surface.

The Golden Gourami is known for its vibrant coloration and generally peaceful temperament, although males can sometimes show territorial behavior towards each other. They reach a maximum size of about 15 cm (6 inches).

Key Care Requirements:

• Aquarium Setup: Best kept in tanks of 100 liters or more, featuring plenty of dense live plants to provide natural hiding spots.
• Water Flow: Prefers slow-moving water and calm currents. Ensure unhindered access to the water surface for atmospheric breathing.
• Compatibility: Peaceful with similarly sized tank mates. Avoid housing them with very small fish or aggressive fin-nippers.
• Diet: An omnivore that readily accepts high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen foods like daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms.
